The brief

The Cancer Support Community, a non-profit that supports people affected by cancer, needed a new landing page for MyLifeLine.org, its social platform where patients, caregivers and loved ones share updates and support. The page had to introduce the platform warmly to people who might be arriving at a hard moment, explain what it offers, and lead them straight into signing up or logging in.

It also had to work on every device. Many visitors come from a phone, so the page needed to feel just as clear on a small screen as on a desktop, while carrying video, animation and a working sign-in. The timeline was two months.

The approach

As lead technical architect, I planned the build around a mobile-first, responsive layout using Bootstrap, so the same page adapts from phones to large screens without separate versions.

  • Storytelling with video and animation. Video and light animation carry the message, so the platform's purpose comes across in seconds rather than through long blocks of text. Media loads in a way that keeps the page responsive on slower connections.
  • Sign-up and sign-in on the page. User authentication was built into the landing page with PHP and CodeIgniter, connecting to the existing MyLifeLine.org accounts, so a new visitor can create an account and a returning member can log in without leaving the page.
  • Maintainable front end. The HTML5, CSS and JavaScript were organized into reusable pieces, so the team could update copy, media and sections after launch.

The outcome

The new landing page launched within the two-month window and gave MyLifeLine.org a modern, welcoming front door that works on any device. Visitors can understand what the platform offers, watch its story, and join or sign in from a single page, giving the Cancer Support Community a clearer way to bring people into its online support network.
