The brief
Nusura, a Denver-based team of emergency management training experts, needed a flagship digital tool for its exercises. In a real disaster, responders and public information officers face a flood of public reaction across news and social media. Training for that pressure is hard without a realistic, controlled environment.
The goal was SimulationDeck: an enterprise web application that could simulate the public's response to real-world events and disasters, so agencies could practice communicating and responding as a scenario unfolds.
The approach
The platform was built as a secure, closed environment that mirrors the channels people turn to during an emergency.
- Realistic simulated channels. The application recreates the kinds of news, social media and public feedback that responders would see, so exercises feel close to a live event.
- Controlled by the exercise team. Exercise staff can feed in simulated public reaction as the scenario develops, raising the pressure and testing how participants respond.
- Built for enterprise use. The platform supports multiple organizations and exercises, with access limited to the people taking part, so sensitive training content stays private.
The outcome
SimulationDeck became Nusura's flagship simulation tool, giving emergency management agencies a realistic place to rehearse public communication before a real disaster strikes. It turned a difficult-to-practice part of emergency response into something teams can train for again and again.
